Cocktail author: recipe from official Midori website.

Coloured sweet liqueurs are usually not held in high regard when it comes to cocktails, but sometimes it is fun to rediscover your childlike spirit and play around with these colourful libations. When it comes to it, Midori is probably one of the best colourful liqueurs out there. It is quite sweet, but its unique flavour profile and high quality can stand up to pretty much anything. I will be honest, I discovered this liqueur around 4 years ago and did not expect much in the beginning, but I was pleasantly surprised and slowly became rather fond of it.

One could say, the base of this cocktail is split between melon liqueur and sake. However, Midori with its signature green colour and flavour of Japanese musk melons is the most prominent ingredient of the cocktail setting the tone for the overall flavour profile. Sake brings earthy slightly savoury notes to the mix, blending well with the liqueur and starts offsetting the sweetness. Green Chartreuse with its bold herbal botanical profile adds tons of complexity, giving the cocktail a gentle touch of sophistication. Last, but not least, refreshing tartness of lemon juice helps to bring balance to what would otherwise be a very sweet drink.

All in all, Toast of Tokyo might not be the biggest star of the cocktail world, but it is tasty, fruity and herbaceous drink with an eye-catching colour. Perfectly suited to lift anyone’s mood.
